The Cocktail Audio X10 will revolutionise how you listen to your CD collection forever by storing up to 30 000 albums in one compact music player at a touch of a button without needing to use a computer. Simply insert your CD into the Cocktail Audio X10 press play and record and within 3 or 4 minutes the whole album will be loaded on to its built-in 2TB hard drive ready for you to listen to whenever you like. Not only will your shelves and cupboards be free from CD clutter but thanks to the fact that the artist album and track information is automatically saved at the point of recording a CD to the X10 by using the user friendly on screen menu and remote control your favourite music is now at your fingertips. But that's not it! Unlike the competition the Cocktail Audio X10 is so much more than just a CD recorder/player as it features an Internet radio player just connect to your home network through Ethernet or optional wireless dongle (WiFi) music streamer so that you can connect to internet and import music files from your computer directly into the X10 hard drive and LP / Tape recorder to transfer your old vinyl and tape collection to the X10's hard drive And all of this music can be listened to either through your existing stereo system or through the optional matching speakers. You can also transfer your entire connection of recordings from the hard drive to your PC for safe permanent back up. Details The X10 can either be connected to your existing home Hi-Fi set up or you can just use the built-in amplifier to connect to a pair of speakers to and hey-presto you're in business. The X10 can rip music in MP3 OGG FLAC or WAV formats straight to the hard disk. However, it rips CDs in a wide range of formats really quickly and sound quality is excellent. It's an attractive item and sits well with other hi-fi separate components. It is a lot of money, but it has already cheerfully stored several hundred of my CDs and (this is the 2TB version) it has hardly made a dent in the capacity, despite my storing the files as WAV (uncompressed). My main gripes are that the unit comes with no connectors or leads (apart from the mains one) and although described as ready for wireless and streaming, you actually have to buy a separate Cocktail Audio Dongle at another �29 in order to do this. So "expensive" just turned into "very expensive" and rather frustrating. To cap it all, the manual is written in very broken English and doesn't explain many of the setup or operating issues with much clarity. I was on the phone for over 30 minutes and Peter talked me through various aspects of the machine that the brochure didn't even mention. Sadly, his help, well intentioned as it was , just didn't provide the answers. Moreover, it just reinforced the point that the manual provides precious few answers and if after only one day I have discovered so many aspects of it that fail to deliver, then the prospect of it ever becoming a satisfactory purchase are slim.Faults or downfalls: 1. Cover art is a complex rigmaroll. It should be a fluent process akin to Windows media player. The user shouldn't have to perform computing cartwheels to achieve something this basic. I have loaded approx 700 CD's in un-compressed WAV form so far and the system names them, track name, album name etc (similar to iTunes) via a database disc (supplied) or updates via the internet using a wireless dongle or you can plug your ethernet cable into the rear of the unit.Other great features of this unit are the internet radio and especially the AUX-IN where you can transfer anything you like - using mine to transfer my old 12" records from back in the day! There are regular Firmwave / Software updates from Cocktail Audio via the internet and great online forums which cover all aspects of the unit. It's great having all tunes in one, easy access unit and it's great listening to tunes I just haven't got around to in years! |
