The service person successfully recovered the files but the drive was unrecoverable. He did comment that unlike many other ext. hd's, the Iomega 1 TB model had no internal or external shock absorbing material and a relatively mild shock resulted in its destruction. But it's quite fat and short. But the same size as every other brands - I originally did buy this because it "looked" smaller, I will keep it until I can find a smaller one.In Mac OSX Lion there are a couple of things you'll need to do, first it says it's OSX Friendly... I think this is a little misleading as practically every things Mac friendly, just not out the box Firstly you need to format it to use it in Mac, and change the settings - I have mine on OSX Journaled, so out the box it isn't just plug and play Also I saw on the box it said Encryption - as it's portable where I'm storing all my photos etc I thought this would be a great idea incase I lost it, well their software for encryption doesn't work with Mac - On a side note I couldn't test USB 3, because I don't have... Read more 4 of 4 people found the following review helpful Large and Fast Portable Drive, By This review is from: Iomega 35194 Prestige 1TB USB 3.0 Portable USB Hard Drive (Personal Computers) There was a time when you would need to purchase a bulky 3.5" drive with power supply in order to attain a larger size than 500Gig which was the maximum in the 2.5" portable drives. Now having the convenience of a 1 Tb in a 2.5" is really great coupled with the fact that it's USB 3 so connecting this drive to a more recent USB 3 laptop makes transfer of larger files a breeze up to 10 times faster than USB 2 and still compatible with older laptops for USB 2 and 1.A great product and would recommend. I only gave it a 4 out of 5 stars because you have to be careful removing the lead from the device which is a bit stiff, as with time the metal surround where you plug the usb lead into the drive is starting to work its way loose, so the alternative is that I now have to keep the usb lead permanently plugged into the hard drive and simply wrap the lead around, that way it will avoid the input surround from coming out of the body of the drive.
